Foil strain gauges are bonded to multiple internal load-bearing elements and they measure the loads imposed on those elements. All the signals from each strain gauges are amplified and combined into three dimensional analog forces by the orthogonal axes (x, y and z) as well as the moments or torques. In most models, the analog data is converted to digital form by electronic systems in the sensor. Some models optionally provide analog output instead of digital.
